As I stand here at the stake,
With the kindling at my feet,
I’m given my one final chance
To alter that which I believe.
That love can save us all,
And is key to all we do.
I stand my ground,
And do not back down.
Then I see her in the crowd,
Her eyes glistening with tears.
I smile at her through the smoke
And the pain from the burning at my feet.
I realize then just how lucky I was
To have her in my life
My resolve to the power of love strengthens,
And I hold my head up high.
I yell to her not to cry,
And tell her I love her so.
Our eyes meet briefly and we smile.
I die in peace knowing our love is eternal,
And that I burned at this stake
To keep my heart from dying,
And disappointing my one love.
