Dark Angel
The two now cling so desperately
To each other and they bleed
What once was harmless bickering
Turned now to just surviving
Captured for what they weren’t
No money bags so now they hurt
Hidden away in a small shack
Tied to the butcher’s rack
Each other’s company to share
In dying moments, no one to care
The captures gone to find real gold
Leaving them to age and mold
A drunken mother, a fallen dad
Won’t notice the blood of what they had
Their last hope, each other’s arms
And silent prayers, like little charms,
To draw a hope that had fled so fast
So drawn out it didn’t last
But then the joy of not returning
To the home, were they’d been burning
A happy release from the chains of life
Never again to see their parent’s strife
If only they can stand the pain
Then leave the garments’ bloody stain
But one won’t go without the other
Hand in hand they shake and shutter
Death prolonged for fear of loss
Neither will leave one on the cross
They sit and wait for death to come
To take them both under his thumb
Look out to his darkening light
The dark angel flies high tonight
