Such Things That Break
Such Things That Break
The screaming drove its’ stake within my chest.
My leaping stairs outpace my stricken mind.
What dread is this that grips my home and rest?
What horror come to fall will now be mine?
My little girl awash in sorrows’ pain,
Her plaintive eyes beyond consoling news.
She offers for my grief her stark refrain;
“My doll is gone, it’s broken now in two.”
Such anger breaks to rile across my face,
“I thought that something bad had happened here!”
She bows her head before my callous haste,
And shows to me the fate of all I fear.
“Come here to me my darling baby girl,
This was the best of dolls in all the world.”
