The Big Game

The visitors took the east side,
the home team took the west.
It’s the last game of the season
to determine who is best.

The two teams took the field,
the game would soon begin
in just about three hours
we will see just who will win.

The captains met at center field
the coin was tossed up high
now it’s just “heads or tails”
then it’s “do or die”.

The lead went back and forth,
it was anything but tame,
with sixty seconds on the clock
it was still anyone’s game.

The quarterback received the snap
and threw the ball up high,
the pass was dropped - the whistle blew
it ended in a tie.

Sometimes it’s not important
to see if you’re the best,
but just to see how well you do
when you’re put to the test.

Simple but true. Nicely written poem. I liked that it rhymed; gave it a sort of nursery rhyme feel to it.
