Last One Out, Please Turn Off the Lights! [post-katrina #9]

Last One Out, Please Turn Off the Lights!

Evacuate!

Sure...
we’ll just pack the
family photos, credit cards and
spare cash,
crank up the SUV,
load it up with
the kids, the pets,
and cases of designer water...
and head on out of town
to the relatives
up north.

But...
what about a family of ten
with a granny on dialysis,
newborn twins,
an about-to-deliver
big sister,
no credit cards, next-to-no cash,
no cases of anything,
no vehicle
bigger than the cart junior borrowed
from Wal-Mart...
and nowhere to go?

So, who’re the idiots who drafted the evacuation plan?

Who’re the yo-hos it never occurred to, to include some way to transport the un-self-transportable?

What divorced-from-reality braintrust forgot that hospitals would need to be evacuated, too...and protected from drug-hunting looters, till they were?
Katrina’s first evacuees were the minds and hearts of those in charge!

Boy have you got that right.
"un-self-transportalbe" another nice coined word.

This was an excellent self-expression peice and also one that makes us look around and acknowledge the every day mundane things that we take for granted.

Just an opinion

hey, buddy-mine... how come we can get it right and the folks at cnn and all the other on-the-ground news venues can 'get it right' and yet the great minds in charge of this once-great nation CAN'T!??
