One Chance
Won’t waste my time on regrets,
for there is not a moment I’d take back.
Living life hurts but not living it
makes death seem pleasant.
A million times over I’ll vote to keep this pain fresh
to the alternative of going through life numb.
As I see it I had one chance and now that it’s gone
I’ll rely on memories to sustain me.

A strong person indeed, with an attitude to admire. I'd think that with that thought it wouldn't be too long before another chance wandered by to bring new chances at memories.
Ah, Nae, if everyone had this attitude the world would be a much livelier place instead of having half or more of it moping & backing away from life because of past pain.
( notice how carefully I've avoided whether or not this is about you and/or present time? If it is, *big hug* you still have friends with which to share & ease the angst)

Right on Nae...as I said in my "exposed" interview
"Woulda...shoulda...coulda" is cold comfort in your old age. But there is no such thing as "one" chance in life...its a series of chances that are there every day of our lives, but that we sometimes fail to see and take advantage of.
You are the engineer of this train called life Nae...knowing you...you will never be just a passenger!
Love ya
Bea

I kind of like what is being said but I didn't really get any feeling from reading this piece. I can almost picture it being read by a computer or something rather than a person. I don't know.
I also felt like it was a bit unreal. Everyone wastes at least some time on regret even if we don't want to and even when we know that we shouldn't. You aren't being honest if you say otherwise. Without regret we wouldn't fully understand our mistakes and we couldn't reap the benefits of that understanding.
I would like to see much more feeling in this. I think it is a good thought for a poem but it feels very mechanical to me. I want to feel the pain that you are talking about but it isn't there for me. So far I am the only one that seems to think that but it may be a good thing to have somewhat varying opinions.
Best of Luck,
Skylor

Great outlook, very strong approach. Short and well stated.

Journyman I agree with you. I lived filled with regrets before. Always pondered on what could of, should of, and would have been. I have learned that we learn things for a reason, sometimes good and sometimes bad. I hope to live and learn and then move on. Guilt and regret may work for a short period of time but then it just takes over if we let it. Thank you for your comments.
Bea, like I tried to explain to Ivor over at lit. it is not that we only have one chance at life, just sometimes one chance at something truly extraordinary. I am in no way saying that I will not have "new" extraordinary things in my life just not this "one" thing. Thank you for getting me.
Circulateson, redemption is a good thing to learn. We need to love, learn, live and experience. But there are times we truly just need to learn to let go. And with letting go, you have to let go of all the bad. I believe the good needs to stay front and center. Just my opinion.
Harry Haller, I do agree with you to a point. I know we spend "some time" but this is about not letting that consume who I am. This was my experience, and I don't expect everyone to agree, understand or be where I am in my life. I really appreciate your comments and look forward to hearing more from you.
Wayne, thank you. I do believe I am growing stronger every day. Love that feeling.
