This took a couple of reads before I grasped what I think this might be about. It has some powerful lines and some things that are confusing. I suppose it all depends on who the reader is but - for me - if it's about child abuse - it should be kicked up a bit. One word really seemed out of place - 'mush'. I went back and stared at that 'mush' thinking about its relevance. The other thing - vale of tears - I know that's a poetic term for a place of sorrow - but I was thinking how - veil of tears - would work just as well.
