Morning Cigarettes
Morning cigarettes, like nothing else,
religious, sanguine, distinct --
a disease of affirmed comfort,
a premeditation on affliction,
a pox to dispel dreams.

That's my favorite part, I think.
I just had a cigarette out on my balcony, so this was perfect timing.
Loved it. Excellent work.

Oh may the artsy fartsy gods forgive me for saying this...
but I think the language here is a bit too pretentious for the subject matter. I like excessive, big words when they relate to something complex or confusing, but not smokin' a ciggy.
With that said, I'm goin' to light up

huh.
what a delightful little piece to find on the forum.
i like it very much.
i find it somehow comforting.
and yes, it makes me want to start smoking again, too.
you do know that if you keep this up, i will start smoking again and die at 50, don't you?
i would quote my favorite line, but they all weave themselves together... so i can't.
nicely done le penguin,
jen

I always hated that morning fag unless it was still the evening (and Jack Daniels or some such was still flowing).
Now the fag after dinner out on the porch, dog at my feet, a drink in hand, ahhh
or about halfway through a really really good poem
or with the first beer of the day
oh well life is as much about what we leave behind as about what we taken on.

No time for a proper reply, sadly. Many thanks for the charming comments all. Until next time...
