Nachtzorgen

Nachtzorgen

The title means 'Night Worries' in Dutch. Why Dutch? It gives the title a bit more puzzlingness, plus, Dutch is my mother tongue and I think in it for the most part, and the poem is about thoughts at night.

Lying awake
alert as a bird
waiting for cats in tall grasses.
Ears' rushing blood
screams through silence.
Quarter to eleven.
When worst-case scenarios
burn fact to silent ash
and burrow, slither
like earthworms
through the black soil
of the brain.

Wham-o! This is excellent.

Very nice job of keeping this piece exactly as it should be, minimalizing as much as possible to create the effect you desired. Excellent manipulation of the English language. I am very impressed.

Caught the night terror worry feeling from this. Made my tummy do a little flippity flop.
