World on Fire

I don't usually write much poetry, but after watching 'Sylvia' and then hearing 'World on Fire' by Sarah McLaughlin on the radio, I got inspired and actually thought of the whole poem while trying to sleep one night!

The world is on fire,
but what else do you get
when you fuel and extinguish
at the same time?

Oh, firefighters of the world:
you are two faced.
It is not what you can do for the fire,
but what the fire can do for you.

Do we want our children to grow up
amid the flames of the world?

Perhaps we do
