Thoughts of a Chocolate Lover

This is my first real attempt at writing poetry, it isn't something I normally do. Anyway.

Thoughts of a Chocolate Lover

Better than sex
Or so some say.
Those chaste of its love scoff at the idea.

Dark, white, plain
Milk
Smoother than silk,
The newsagent lodges Charlie’s factory
On a shelf.
Biscuit, cake, caramel centres,
A box from Belgium holds near-transcendent treasures.
Small packets; a swift self-indulgence.

Chocolate dominates one’s thoughts.
Indeed Mars is not celestial.

The dessert menu arrives, cake… chocolate fudge.
Chocolate dipped mocha, strawberry,
Chocolate on chocolate, endless combinations,
For chocolate
None should compromise.

Indeed
Why feel guilt,
Delay pleasure,
This trove should be enjoyed without measure.

John,

You sucked me in with the title, I am a chocolate fanatic. Now my mouth is all watery and no chocolate in sight! This verse should be my new life motto:

Indeed
Why feel guilt,
Delay pleasure,
This trove should be enjoyed without measure.

Truly enjoyed.
Nae

You had me from the first stanza! The entire poem had me chuckling in an "I identify with this" way.

I also love the line:

Quote:
Indeed Mars is not celestial.

I have to agree; you had me at the title! It was great...now... I must go get some chocolate! *runs to find some*

I have to admit I've eaten near-excessive quantities of chocolate over the festive period

That just goes to show that if you are passionate enough about something (be it devouring slabs of rich chocolate bars) you may be able to write about it.

One day you will look back and thank chocolates for pushing you over the edge into poetry writing.

May the journey be a fulfilling one!

Indeed. I've started combining small parts of poetry into some of my short stories; Not rambling, long-winded stuff but poetry that gets straight to the point and delivers a strong message.

Hey John,
that is an awesome development. I always wondered who wrote the poems used by novelists. I figure some of them could write decent verse but what about those that couldn't? (Of course, I imagine that)
And then again, there are the epic poems that tell the story in verse. That is the maddest writing feat!

Will look out for your 'poetified' short stories.

Ricky
