Housewife

Shocked
at the sight of you
falling
out of reach.
The impatience of it all.

Furious
ants invade our walls
cockroaches and dustballs.
Mundane passing
of time.

Irritating
my voice grates.
The silence bears
witness
to this emptiness
of mine.

Unbearable
a life on hold.
Staring at
the vacuum left
where I should be.

Exhaustion
my body aches.
The strength to change
escapes me.
as boredom overwhelms.

Shocked
at the sight of me
falling
out of reach.
The waste of it all.

rcallaci is an unknown quantity at this point
We all live lives of quiet desperation and in this case a very loud one. kudos to you, i can hear the horror of a life caught in the quicksand of boredom.

warm regards
Bob

how can someone take a topic as mundane as being a housewife and make a poem out of it? well, you did. and it's great. you present the old ideal of 'happy housewife' and prove it can be anything but. while some may treasure their domestic bliss, clearly there are many who feel trapped by it. really great piece.

Very nice. I work from home,my better half works outside the home, and we have 2 children with another on the way. I know exactly how you feel (he says..having just finished washing the dishes).

Secrets

Thank you so much for your replies. I am touched that my "piece" affected you so. Appreciate the feedback so much. Secretly of course, I'm not a housewife, although technically I am! I am all that I say in the poem and more. I'm sure you are too!!
love
