    Old lovers

It's been a few years now
I arrive at your door in what
I hope is a radiant light

You tell me to get lost
with a smile in your eyes
And as I am already lost
    I hold your gaze
    Until it burns my heart

    Like before
We know the end from the start

    We try to converse
    Like old friends would
    You remember bits of me
    I remember all of you

I ask you how your feeling
And the same look covers your eyes
You say you felt me walk away
    As soon as I arrived.

Later, when your eyes turned to new mysteries
And you freed yourself from my grip
I had no fight left in me
I had no fight left in me

I saw you first, staring, hazy
    through a room of strangers
Your eyes cut a path to mine
    And we were introduced.

    Where are you now
    What happened to that place
The era of all of us
    Lost in another new day

So poignantly beautiful, I felt a cold wind of loss tear at my soul...Haunting--OH yes! You dug up bones that I had buried sooo very deep. Well done! This was daunting to read and will remain with me for far too long. Looking forward to reading more of your exquisite work. Peace...Jul

    Love that . . . . . . and get that . .
The rain has varnished the land | and in the scattered windows | of the reflected sky | shines a tantalising glimpse | of freedom.

Well done. The differences, the hurt, the love, the past.

Thank you Kenny A. I was really going through a tough time getting over someone even after a long time having not seen him (a few years ago now though, 2005) so this poem is very real for me.

I loved the line "I hold your gaze until it burns my heart" and "Like before, we know the end from the start" This is such a beautiful poem and as someone who has recently gone through this, it really hit home with me. You did a wonderful job writing this. Wow.
