What do you think is going to happen?
I asked at night,
when things can seem unreal.
I don't want to talk about it in the daytime,
when dreams cannot exist.
Two things, he said.
Either way life will be different.
Maybe they will come to their senses
and end corporate greed.
Maybe new laws will be passed
and things will be easier.
He was silent for a moment,
the drowsy dark a wall between us.
We were facing away from one another,
our backs touching in mutual warmth.
What's the other thing? I asked,
unsure if he had drifted into sleep.
Uprising, he replied.
There is only so much we will stand for.
I asked softly:
Will we leave here, if that happens?
Will we leave this land of apple pie?
Yeah, he said.
