    Inevitable Change

What do you think is going to happen?
    I asked at night,
    when things can seem unreal.
I don't want to talk about it in the daytime,
    when dreams cannot exist.

    Two things, he said.
Either way life will be different.
Maybe they will come to their senses
    and end corporate greed.
Maybe new laws will be passed
    and things will be easier.

He was silent for a moment,
the drowsy dark a wall between us.
We were facing away from one another,
our backs touching in mutual warmth.

What's the other thing? I asked,
unsure if he had drifted into sleep.
    Uprising, he replied.
There is only so much we will stand for.

    I asked softly:
Will we leave here, if that happens?
Will we leave this land of apple pie?
    Yeah, he said.

Wow Damien, talk about topical. Adore the truth of S1, as well as "the drowsy dark a wall between us", great line, even greater image. Well done, love. And I'm so glad to see you posting again, you've been missed.

    Best,
    Lisa

I loved the warm and cozy atmosphere you created between the two people, so typical and real of a couple lying in bed and talking. The line that Lisa mentioned was such a wonderful image and so perfect here. The title also, struck me as perfect for this piece.
