    Freedom from Slavery

    Hi all,

This is my first time sharing anything here on the forum. It's just something quick. A couple nights back I was watching & listening to a lecture by Hamza Yusuf where he spoke at length on the nafs (roughly translated from Arabic as the ego, the desires of life, etc) and our human condition suffering from the nafs.

    It's taken me so long
I've come to realize i'm a slave to myself, my desires, my lust, and my ego.
I'll never truly be free until I am free of myself.
Guide me from this jahiliyya, oh my Rabb.

*Google the words in the last sentence for a better understanding. It's essentially a poetic prayer, or d'ua.
as'salamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.

It's a prayer, and I can understand where it's coming from.
Nice one, and I say Aameen to that for me too.

“The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.” ~ James Allen

"Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best." ~ Henry Van Dyke
