False Facts of Fortified Fears and Foolish Falsehoods

I spoke today with a conspiracy theorist. This is just something I wrote quickly after speaking with them. Just for laughs of course, although please feel free to let me know what you think. (Also, no offense if you are a "theorist". It's all in good fun!) Enjoy:

False Facts of Fortified Fears and Foolish Falsehoods

"Fear!" screams the angry, yet rejoicing do I hear.
It's truth, both false and simple, that they hold dear.
Screaming that, "Life's banner is sinister, black and cold,
So run in terror from evils hidden yet bold!"
You may not know their truth, the truth of our evil world,
So let me wave it's flag, bright, clear, and unfurled.

Osama and Obama, one and the same,
did conceive a child of pure wizardry.
They hired Bush, a pitiful pawn,
to wax and wane the peoples loyalty.
So Obama could take the global reigns,
    unhindered, unfettered, and free,
to rule the earth, the mind, the soul
with HAARP, lasers, and hypnotic TV.

    9/11 absolutely didn't not happen,
after and before it was told.
So the evil triune, could twist the world,
and to the coalition would it be sold.
Now captured are the oil, gold and nukes,
And yet again do we fear their fun.
For Obama and Bush and Laden all,
Conspired that Japan should be undone.

So tidal waves of sorcery did overrun,
    Both the impoverished and weak.
    The plants destructions to fulfill,
their deepest and darkest of feats.
Now nuclear atoms wipe the world
    cleansing the stronger men.
Making way for theirs, a wicked regime
of rivers of blood and unparalleled sin.

Yet rumors of truth did begin,
And quick, a plan was hatched,
    To trick Osama's double,
into a dark and bloody sack.

So now the world lies in danger again, as none but evil rule.
And if you don't believe, then you are nothing,
but stupid, ignorant, a lost and pitiful fool.
For YOU are the one who fails to hear,
YOU are the one who fails to see why,
YOU are the one who suffers the evil,
YOU are the one who believes a lie.

First, I'd like to say, BRAVO! Absolutely loved this. Not many are stalwart enough to dabble in the political world of conspiracies and the like. This was extremely tasteful and completely relateable; I've run into a few theorists like these.

The part which says "9/11 didn't not happen", I do believe you did that on purpose but if you didn't, well, here you go.

The last two stanzas had me laughing. Very witty.

    Nice work!
But in the long run we have found

That silent pictures are full of sound

Thanks! I did intend the double negative as well as the next line about it occuring "after and before it was told". I figured it played in with the illogical statements often made, as well as the conflicting theories. Glad you enjoyed it!

A very bold theme, and very well written. Liked it.

It might have been for laughs, but there's truth in the last stanza.
“The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.” ~ James Allen

"Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best." ~ Henry Van Dyke

    Flapjack, well done!

Life's banner is sinister, black and cold,

You may not know their truth, the truth of our evil world,
So let me wave it's flag, bright, clear, and unfurled.
Yours brings to mind a poem I wrote way back. "America. Red, White and Dead" Inspired by the high school massacar at Columbine. If I may...the last stanza. Like your piece, tounge in cheek. So I'm a bit biased, digging your poem. Sheer sympatico!

"So we button up our shirts
    white and tight.
Button them up right and proper
waving our hands goodbye to so many

waving our flags at half mast."

    The plants destructions to fulfill,
their deepest and darkest of feats.
    Great alliteration.

    unhindered, unfettered, and free,
to rule the earth, the mind, the soul
with HAARP, lasers, and hypnotic TV.
Rhyme right on spot. Excellent pacing.

    9/11 absolutely didn't not happen
I think a play on phrase? Yeah, like the Holocoust didn't happen.

    More! Laurie

Thanks candid. I would say there is most certainly truth there. In my main project I'm trying to encapsulate the confirmatory bias mindset. That is to say, I want to showcase the negative effects of accepting only those truths which confirm one's current beliefs.

It's very easy in a poem such as this, because most people don't accept these "facts" as truth. In reality (and realistic fiction I suppose), it's much harder. I am trying to show the harm in confirmatory bias when the beleifs are arrived at through a perfectly rational means, yet new information that conflics with those beliefs suddenly appears. The problem affects many more people but is difficult to solve.

    Nonetheless, thanks for the critique!

After reading your snippet, I see how I brought back old memories. I wouldn't mind reading the whole piece if you still have it easy at hand.

It is a little frustrating to do read up on 9/11 and Holocaust conspiracies. Not because they are all unlikely, impossible, or sheer insanity. No, its difficult to understand how a large group of people can quite literally agree to disagree. In other words you find that there are theories galore that directly conflict with one another (as the 9/11 line and the following points out). But these theories, rather then causing dissension, seemingly support one another. Ex. "We may not know the truth for sure, be we know that the newspapers, media, and the average person doesn't have it." The situation provides some interesting social study.

    Thanks for your other comments.

Have to echo Saucerful here, superb read. Extremely clever, wonderful use of wordplay, and subtle rhymes. My only nit being your erratic use of caps. You didn't cap every line, which is good, but there are some caps at the beginning of some lines which are interjected mid phrase and are distracting. By your replies to both Candid Petunia and Laurie, it's apparent you have this type pegged perfectly and and your piece reflects that understanding. Very well done, Flapjack, and much enjoyed.

    Best,
    Lisa

I must admit that I failed to take care when placing my caps. Chalk it up to my lack of experience or short time spent on the poem. I essentially put a cap where it seemed appropriate, giving it no thought. Not really like me but lesson learned I suppose.

Thanks for your other generous comments.
