    Literary Suicide

All of my books are committing suicide
dive off the ends of my shelves
    fall into oncoming traffic
pages ripped away by tire rubber
    just as if they were

hair from the head of a trichotillomaniac

    bandages from a burn victim's
    rice paper skin
    still wet and half-grafted
    to dull pink gauze.

Very clear and graphic images here, which I loved. I think, and this is only my personal opinion, that it would read better without the 'just'. I try not to use that word too often, myself, but on occasion, no other word will do.

Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. I see what you mean about the 'just.' It's like the word 'like,' which I make a point of never using in a piece. It's probably the number one used word in poetry, I would guess.
