Inspired by the book Kokoro. It has very little to do with the book, but that's the inspiration just the same.

Into the Heart of Things: Inspiration Dwells Where Father’s Lie

Broken and mending relations:
the estranged son and the quickly dying man
once full of a strong will,
hidden beneath a shadowed brow
' ' ' ' —stern and unfeeling
is sprawled and clinging to his bed,
reading the newspaper backwards
and shouting for his wife
calling her by her sister’s name.
' ' ' ' The son forgives
the shell he can no longer disappoint
that has either given up on himself
or found some lunatic’s peace
in the wrinkled sheets he sleeps beneath.

For whatever reason I can not get the indentions to work right. Sorry about those marks.
