    Thank You, Mom

A Tribute to my mother for this coming Mother's Day:

    It’s five in the morning
    and with the alarm ringing,
you come to my room and wake me up.

    But you were already
    up an hour early
    as you cooked breakfast
    before you broke my sleep,
    which I was savoring.

    I came down to eat
    while you took your seat,
watching me enjoy my jelly sandwich.

    You did this everyday
and more I forgot to say
    as you cared for your
    chubby child.

    That child has grown now
    much thanks to you…
    and your yummy cooking, too.
    But more than the cooking,
    you taught me many things
    that I could never forget.

How to love, how to live,
how to smile, how to laugh
and how to seek the best in life.
    You taught me these
    and perhaps much more,
for these I have my mom to thank.

And I may not have said it much
but may you know it well and true
that I very much love you.

    Thank you, Mom!

This was sweet. We need to remember what our Mothers have done for us every single day of our lives. Nice Work!

I can only echo what's already been said, Fuhrer, a very sweet tribute. I'm sure Mom will be elated when you share it with her, I know I would be.

    Best,
    Lisa

A song to every mother's ears. And a lucky mother to have a son in you who would write such a beautiful tribute. Laurie

Thanks for all your kind words.

And I already gave this to her, since my siblings already gave their gifts, albeit a little early. She simply smiled after reading the poem and said to me, "I love you, too."

That, for me, was the best "thank you" I have received in a very long time.

That's wonderful! And I must tell you that your poem inspired me to write a letter-poem to my own mother. So, thank you for sharing your gift to your mother with us.

The beauty and grandness lay in its simplicity and sincerity, just the way tributes should be, without accolades spouted like a sycophant on speed.

A lovely tribute to your mum and as I mother myself, it is nice to feel appreciated.

Just one suggestion - watch your tenses.

    I come down and eat
    while you took your seat,
watching me enjoy my jelly sandwich.

^ Whoops. I must've missed that. Sorry! Oh, and thanks!
