    Of Otters

    Otter-fellow sleek-brown
    swimmer-swift whiskered
    frown and quick-eye
    chasing fishes-tasty
    in sparkling-waters
    fine and bright ~
    A joyful-day when
    otter-kind find belly-full
    at darking-time
    in sleeping-bed
    till morning-light
    when fishes swim
    in waters-bright ~

I like this very much. It has a whimsical quality to it I feel- almost fairytale in the way you've used words and created a great rhythm. Nice one

I enjoyed the brevity and very pleasing aural quality of this one, Todd. The imagery is pretty darn vivid, too. Nicely done.

I sang this. It was nostalgic of my nursery experiences.
"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there."

I must say that I am very pleased with the reception and feedback given on this one - sometimes one does not know truly how a piece sounds or comes across to others - I'm glad the delightful innocence of this one comes through

I'm particularly delighted with the fairytale and whimsy comments - there is a world of imagination out there (or in there) that can never be exhausted
I hadn't thought of a nursery rhyme, but I see what you mean - very childlike and rhythmic

I have in mind a large volume filled with little vignettes like this, one for each of the creatures - seeing things from their viewpoint, telling the little dramas of their lives in just a few words - would be a large volume indeed : )

Do you think there would be a publisher interested in such a volume? "Meditations on the Creatures", heavy leather-bound tome with silver-inlay, with such entries as "Of Ravens", "Of Badgers", "Of Bees" and "Of Hedgehogs" - I would write it just so I could read it myself over and over : )
