    Poetry request

Im positive this thread is going to get moved lol.
Anyways, I have a request for a poem. My sister-in-laws baby shower is coming up on April 9th. I've been preparing two knitted blankets for my niece and I really want a poem to go with the gift. First I'll tell you what the blankets look like: they are 100% hand knitted by myself. Both are pink and white, different yarns and both are checkered with alternating pink and white squares. They're very...er...homey. In other words, they aren't perfect.
I don't have a requirement on length or on type of poem. All I require is that its kind, soft, sweet and loving. My nieces name will be Ava Lynne, so if the name can be worked in, that would be great. The feeling I want my brother and his wife to get when they read it...well I guess I want them to get from the poem that these blankets are meant to be kept forever. They are her baby blankets that I want to be carried through her childhood and to be used for comfort. I want Ava to feel that if she holds a blanket, I'm with her always in spirit.
I would write this myself, but I really feel that someone else could do it better than me.
So, whoever would like to try, just post your work here and Ill let everyone know what I pick! I look forward to hearing what you guys come up with!!

First off, congrats on your new family member and what a wonderful and personal present you will give.

This is the poetry section of a writing forum, so I'm not sure where your request should be moved to! It's a genuine request and I personally think it's fine to have such here.

But how come you think someone else could do it better than you? You want a heartfelt piece right, and since it's your niece, no matter how the crafting would be, words coming straight from your heart would clearly mean the most. If you want Ava to feel you're with her in spirit, I'd even say it needs to come from you. I'm sure the parents would appreciate it even more that way as well. I mean, otherwise you would have to not tell them the poem was written by some stranger, which I don't think would be pleasant for you.

If you end up writing something you could then post your work here, and with our critique, we might be able to improve upon it. I'd say that would be the best way to do it.

    All the best,
    Martin

Ditto to what Martin has said. In principle something this personal should not be contracted out to somebody else. The feelings of warmth you want to convey can only genuinely come from the person who feels compelled to express it. A stranger simply won't be able to do it well, or like Martin implied, convincingly.
