Dreaming of a time when I believed it was all going to be okay
Bittersweet memorys of summer nights, with too much to drink
and winter days with too much to smoke
Can't even sleep without you by my side.
Don't want to believe that you're gone forever now.
So I'll just close my eyes and pretend you're here with me
Forget about the bars keeping us apart.
Never imagined I'd lose you this way.
Every second of every day you're on my mind.
You're name's going through my head like a godamn broken record.
your face tattoed to my eyes.
Never even ment to fall,
Now I'm only wishing you were here to catch me.
These tears are falling like raindrops,
but nobodys here to wipe them away.
Missing you is like waiting on the dead to come back to life,
but I can't stop these tears from falling.
You're everything I never wanted.
Now you're everything I can never have.

the sadness comes across very clearly in this. I liked the image of the bars keeping you apart. Shows well the reason for the separation. The poem is fine as it is but just a thought - you could change "he" to "you" and then it would feel like you were talking to him rather than about him.
