    Fare well dear brother

    FARE WELL DEAR BROTHER

We are finding it so hard Donald, at this time to come to terms with your death.
Instead we will imagine you as an explorer
Who enjoys travelling all around the world
One final journey awaits you, destination unknown.

We will envision you holding hands with Ann
Walking along what appears to be an endless path.
This is really the runway at Dublin Airport departures lounge
Your name is being called out and the pilot is waiting for you to board

Also at your side is your son Allan, Denise and the grandkids
They are laughing and smiling, while having fun along the way
Caoimhe, Niamh Conor and Dervelagh are blowing you love and kisses
You catch them in your hands and hold them to your heart

All your other brothers and sisters, also come out to meet you
We are by your side too, saying goodbye in our own special way
The rest of our family and friends have also come, to wish you a safe journey
Smiling, you look at all of us, the love on your face evident for all to see.

While you are on your travels, I hope you meet Mam and Dad along the way
If so, let them guide you to your destination, while having lots of fun in turn
Let them show you their kingdom, where you will rest your head every night
Enjoy being back in their company, while talking about the good old times

So fare well for now dear brother, until we meet up again
May your journey be adventurous and a pleasant one.
With loads of hugs and kisses
    From your loving family.

(My brother died the other day and I wrote this for him the day he died. He was cremated yesterday and I read this out as a tribute to him from all the family)

So very sorry for your loss, wacker. This is a very touching tribute to your dear brother.

I love the image of your brother as an explorer off on another adventure, what a nice way to think of him.

It's been quite a while, Wacker. I am deeply sorry for your loss. May his soul rest in the bosom of the Almighty. Reading this, I must say you made a great tribute to your late brother. My favorite verses are 1 and 2. Overall , you held on, painting a beautiful picture of the unknown.

I was also touched by the inevitable truth your signature conveys.

    Hi Wacker

So sorry for your loss but a beautiful tribute to your brother which must have brought tears to the eye as you read it out. Hope the pain lessens with time.

Dearest Paul, I am so very sorry to learn of your loss. I am sure Donald is smiling at the wonderful tribute you've penned for him. As Cindy has already said, your description of his excursion is filled with love and hope, most certainly a comfort to all of your family. God bless and keep you and yours in this very trying time, my prayers are with you all.

    Warmest,
    Lisa

Thank you Gumby for your kind considerate words. For anyone one who has lost a loved one or a sibling, it is heart rendering to come up with something plausible from the heart.

Foxryder and shadows, thank you both for your heart felt words in my hours of grief. It is saddening to know that my signature is so apt for this poem. However nobody foresees that it would come to fruition in their ow moments of grief.

    Again, than you for replying

    All the best,

    Wacker

Thank you too Lisa, for your heart felt words. I know that it has been a long time since I last wrote on the forum, but I have had a difficult couple of months between my own illness and my brothers.

I am just very happy that my brother Donald is no longer suffering any more. We gave him the best sending off he deserved. He even managed to reunite one of my other brothers and sister who were no longer speaking for two years.

Unfortunately it had to take his passing for them to come together. Not only was Donald my older brother, he was more of a substitute father to me since our father passed away some fifteen years ago.

Again Lisa, thank you for your comments, lets hope it will be on more pleasant circumstances.

    All the best,

    Wacker

Could I first give my heartfelt condolences to wacker, i truly admire your courage at such an distressing phase in your life.
I do pray you all come out of this tragedy stronger and more united.

Many a times a loss of someone close brings us to our senses as to how precious this life is and how there is not enough time to waste it in petty arguments or trivial pursuits.

Pondering over the deaths which we hear about regularly, I often wonder to myself of this world as a short stop before the eternal life and how a funeral is a preparation for that journey..... reading your poem has just brought that thought home.... and explorer, a traveller on his last voyage to the hereafter.....

My thoughts are with you and your family

    enlighten

[QUOTE=enlighten;1400085]Could I first give my heartfelt condolences to wacker, i truly admire your courage at such an distressing phase in your life.

When I wrote the poem shortly after my brothers death, I used my feelings and emotions to express how I felt from the heart. Not only this, I had to find a way for the family to express their feelings too through this poem.

a loss of someone close brings us to our senses as to how precious this life is and how there is not enough time to waste it in petty arguments or trivial pursuits.

It is true that a loss in ones life brings home (especially nearing Christmas) brings home how precious life is to us all.

I often wonder to myself of this world as a short stop before the eternal life and how a funeral is a preparation for that journey..... reading your poem has just brought that thought home.... and explorer, a traveller on his last voyage to the hereafter.....

I too agree with with your assessment of an explorer. However when I wrote this piece about my brother, is was in relation to his love for travelling.

Again thank you for your thoughts and kind words.

    All the best,

    Wacker.
