    Expectations

Oh the longing that our needs be filled by our 'someone'-
it is like we hope and pray that she can be the one
who can fill the aching void so deep within our heart,
and our need be fully met if we are not apart.

Yet I feel that such a thought leads to a host of woe,
and this does not seem to be a truth for us to know,
for our void speaks to a need beyond the scope of care
that one alone could ever fill - perhaps I should beware.

Set my expectation so I not make cruel demands
that the breadth of all I need be met by just her hands.
Rather we must see our love as one who meets some part
of the missing holes in us that could complete our heart.

I enjoyed the 'Old World' feel of this one and felt like I had stepped back in time. Very nice!

I liked the message here, it would be interesting to see this without rhyme - perhaps in free verse, because passion sometimes feels restrained by rhyme because of that forced acceptance.

    thank you for the read

    enjoyed

liked the last stanza in particular. It does have a very old feel to it, I would cultivate that.

Thanks very much for the feedback all. I'm particularly curious about the 'Old World' perception and would love to better understand what you all mean more precisely. Are you referring to the flow and rhythym? The message/content? Vocabulary?
