    A poem for Kita

I wrote this for my dog who passed away last summer. Feedback?

    Kita

Both of us were almost three,
We grew up together, under that cherry tree,

    Lunch was mandatory for you,
But one day it was not all true,

You wouldn’t eat it, that’s for sure,
    You couldn’t eat it anymore,

The next day, you looked fine,
But we had now made up our mind,

We took you to the vet,
He said that you wouldn’t die yet,

He said that you were bleeding,
And a surgery was what you were needing,

A few days later they took you in,
But that was the day that I slept in,

I didn’t think that you could die,
But it’s too late now to say good-bye,

    Many happy days were spent,
    Until that day you went,

    I’ll remember you forever Kita,
Every time that I look North,

    I will never forget
    The day we first met,

Both of us were almost three,
But we grew up together under that big
    old cherry tree

A very personal poem with its heart on its sleeve. My sister in law had an Old English Bitsa mongrel sheep dog that as a puppy looked like a badger. When it died at the age of 18 I wrote a poem dedicated to its memory. I'll post it suitably edited and hope that it gives some comfort,

Oh how sad, childhood pets are such good friends. I've certainly said goodbye to way too many in my time.

@ BrianRobertNeal: Thank you, I would love to read your poem
@ Gumby, I have a printed copy of this poem with a picture of Kita hanging on my wall and whenever guests come over they read it and get choked up, she was almost like a sister or even a second mom for my brother and sister and I, it's like she would always take care of us I miss her very much <3

    Watto Ruby,
I wrote my poem for my sister-in-law's dog who was called Badger. For the poem I posted I merely replaced one name with the other. Furtunately both names had two syllables. Had your dog's name had one or three, I'd have re-written the line so that it parsed. However I like to think it is a poem that would fit any household pet dog.
