Defiant Wings
Up above, in clouds of white
the defiant one defied His might.
His tongue was loud and spoke of truth,
unaware of a sneaky sleuth.
Fury forced the clouds together;
A flash of gold, a roar of thunder,
and with an unforgiving blow,
the one with dark wings fell below.
Up above his right was wrong;
though his fiery eyes stayed strong.
A pair of wings, slumped on the street;
the icy, hard ground stung his cheek.
Nothing near but an empty place;
on the wall, a smiling face.
Did he know this boy before?
No memories, no home, no more.
A new purpose his dark wings found,
after he had looked around;
a young girl, whom he used to know
guarded by his wings aglow.
She lived in a village, small and clustered,
with people of different cultures and colors.
And every person swift and strong
would guard with grace the place they belong.
Her spirit was strong, like her sword.
Neither of them had a lord.
but when he offered his protection,
Sweet love, stabbed hard by her weapon.
Slashed out anything in her path-
even a rose bush met her wrath.
His eyes felt wet, his heart a pull-
"How can you kill something so beautiful?"
Rain splashed hard on his bent head,
no place to go; his purpose dead.
Those proud, tall, gorgeous wings
becoming useless, tiny things.
Another winged one in disguise:
never glows, never flies,
his motive, to play keep-away;
forever, down there he would stay.
Dark wings couldn't fly in chains;
she, with the sword, remains.
Her weapon wouldn't make a scratch;
only he could win the match.
Reluctantly, her guard fell down;
she watched her angel from the ground.
Her lonely sword lay, by her hand.
First time ever saved by a man.
His tiny wings grew tall and fierce,
his opponent's heart could now be pierced,
and his purpose came alive again
as he protected her right then.
With that, he gained her soothing trust;
to win her love was now a must.
To give his foe the final kill,
she showed him her best swordsman skills.
Together they practiced night and day,
never spending time away.
Her sword and angel were as one;
her guarded heart he'd finally won.
Abound by love, he chose to start
to spill his feelings from the heart,
and the strong girl saw to her surprise,
her long-dead lover in his eyes.
Dark wings, with his sword of pride
left his fallen foe to die,
and if other dangers tried to test,
he'd do his job until her death.
Truth, good for the curious soul,
told that His rules they can't control.
But whoever He who rides the wind is,
dark wings' fiery eyes saw different.
And somehow in the clouds of white,
His God was wrong; his wrong was right.
And whoever He is up above,
dark wings defied; down there is love.
