    Fiendish Thingies (Halloween 2010)

    On this night called Halloween
    Down paths mist-cloaked and serpentine
Some fiendish Thingies lie in wait
Whose hunger no mere man may sate

They prowl come dusk and prey upon
Each naive fool whose light is on
And say to all who dare to greet
A masked and muffled "Trick or Treat!"

But, lest you feed them, hear me well
Their cherub grins were carved in hell
And just as you would bid them go
They'll drag your carcass down below

A game to them is all it is
These demons of the dark abyss
To cast us to the River Styx
And plot out next year's hellish tricks

    Happy Halloween!

It's a dirty job, but somebody's gotta do it, writing the holiday pieces, that is. I passed this time around. I loved Thingies. Impeccable meter, as always, showoff. Excellent effort, my dear. What a joy to read you again.

I like your idea of Halloween , especially this verse:

They prowl come dusk and prey upon
Each naive fool whose light is on
And say to all who dare to greet
A masked and muffled "Trick or Treat!"
I'm glad I didn't have my light on last night.

    Good poem.

I'm no poet by any stretch, but I know what I like and I certainly enjoyed this. Fun stuff! Well done.

By the way, I decorated and had my light on last night, and only got twenty-nine of the fiendish Thingies. By the sounds of it, I'll count myself lucky.

Thanks, all! Glad you liked it. I retitled it "Fiendish Thingies." I wrote it so quickly and tried to get it posted before Halloween was over, that I didn't bother with a proper title at the time.
