    Misguided Mate

Get your fluffy fat ass off of my face
and stop purring in my ear.
    If you haven’t noticed,
    I have no feathers, dear.

Quit caressing my cheek with your claw,
marking me yours with stinging scratches,
    inter-species relationships
    can never result in hatches.

    Dance to your heart’s content,
but you’re wasting time on woo,
people and parrots just can’t mix,
it’s time you find someone new.

    The neighbor’s homing pigeons
    are circling overhead,
if you send a shout out
perhaps one will share your bed.

    Curtain rods make perfect perches
screech an invite to those well flown,
coax airborne ladies to your sill
and leave ME the hell alone.

    Your tail obstructs my vision,
your incessant preening is shredding my skin,
yet it's Mama you yell when you need me,
    and in MY jungle,
it's a sin to mess with kin.

Lisa, Of course, your first line had me LOL. You say it as it is in your poems. This one tops it! Thanks. I needed that this morning! A fun, clever piece from begining to end. And the ending is priceless!

    and in MY jungle,
it's a sin to mess with kin.

    Lisa,

Your expression of felines is much the same as mine. I loved the opening line. Fun poem!

Delightful. I enjoyed so much. This little poem has a lot of spunk and fun, It was very visual and showed the proud, yet aggravated love you have for that pesky parrot,

Dear Cindy, Not cute at all. Nicodemus (misnomer, yes?) is way overbonded with me to the point of obsession, and he treats me as his mate. He even offers me regurgitated food to eat, ooooh, yummy, and then gets highly offended if I politely decline. He's jealous of everyone and attacks them for talking to me. It's gotten ridiculous. I need to find me a Bird Whisperer, as they kids tell me, "Ma, you picked a bad bird." They're right. I'm worried what the trauma of my being gone will do to him. Hope he makes friends with one of them. Glad you enjoyed, love.

Dear Laurie, Happy for that laugh, love. Nico DOES run the house, it's sad but true. We are all at his mercy. All hail King Nico and offer him sacrifices of tiny bits of flesh he liberates with his beak when he doesn't get his way. Glad you liked.

Dear Cindy, Nico's a parrot, but in reading the piece, it could easily apply to felines. I dislike cats, they make my desperately ill as I am severely allergic to them. A cat with his butt in my face would kill me. Thrilled you found it fun as it was all in fun.

Dear Sondra, I'm so glad the pride and love came through. I love him dearly despite his many, many, many, many, faults. I'm not so lonely because of him and he really does love me back, if too much. I'll take delightful any day, love, thank you so much.

    Thank you, my fair ladies.

    All my best,
    Lisa

    Hi Lisa,

    great fun! my personal favourite;

    "Curtain rods make perfect perches
screech an invite to those well flown,
coax airborne ladies to your sill
and leave ME the hell alone."

Some people say animals are insentient...... crap! Some of my best friends have been canine.

    Don't care if you smoke,
    nor if you drink.
    They still lick your feet
    in spite of the stink.

    They come when you beckon,
    and wait for your call.
    To them you're the friend
    who's twenty feet tall.

    If you're in danger
    they'll fight to the death.
    Snarling and tearing,
    can kill with bad breath.

    They'll curl up beside you,
    demand not a thing.
    their love and devotion
    just makes your heart sing.

    warmest wishes,

    Ralph>

To sleep—perchance to dream. Ay, there's the rub!
For in that sleep of death what dreams may come,
When we have shuffled off this mortal coil,
Must give us pause—there's the respect(75)
That makes calamity of so long life.

Nico is quite the Don Juan, eh? I'm sure he's pleased that inspired a poem regardless of its tone. Which makes me wonder what this Texan must do to inspire such tribute... Ah, well. Here's hoping you're speeding down recovery road even as we continue to enjoy your fine work.

Much love and prayer coming your way!

Dear Ralph, I am so happy you enjoyed and am glad you started a thread for your piece. I left you a longer message there, hon. And fun it was to write, although Nico's constant "attention" nearly drove me mad. I guess mating season is over, because Don Juan has shelved his advances of late. lol.

Dear Jeff, Nope, he was not pleased at all. He hates when I use the computer, he attacks it and tries to rip out the keys (he's actually pulled six keys out of my son's Blackberry), as a matter of fact, he also attacks TVs if I'm watching, the phone if I'm on it, anyone who stands next to me for too long or I'm talking to, the fridge when I'm cooking, and his most hated enemy is the mop, he dive bombs that one. If I'm not doing it with him, I shouldn't be doing it at all in his eyes.

Hmmm, some nice barbecue might entice this New Yorker to write a Texan Preacherman a piece. Seriously, Jeff, you know the kind of stuff I write, would you really want to be my muse? It would mean you've done something terrible because that's the only time I write about real people or imagined ones for that matter. You are far too kind to inspire darkness, love, but if ever I switch sides, I'll write about you first, you've certainly given me more than enough material.

I'm feeling that love and those prayers in a steady stream, my dear, and they are paving that road beautifully. Thank you, love.

    Big hugs,
    Lisa
