On the darkest evening of the darkest day
There stood a once great man who had lost his way.
A long life full of sorrow and pain
This man had nothing more to gain.
He searched the darkened, hallowed halls of his mind
Knowing there was nothing good to find.
He was full of despair and regret
From a life, a family he never could forget.
And this grief it pained him so
Sunk him to his lowest low.
But from on his knees what should he find
A special gift long left behind.
It was something not yet known
It was something not yet seen
And for his future, there was only one thing this could mean.
But the man misunderstood it, he threw it to the side
He was only full of fear, he thought he'd rather hide.
The gift would not allow this. The gift just could not wait.
It nearly seemed to him, that the gift was sent from fate.
Then for many nights they struggled, as they fought back demons from his past.
The demons were so many, neither thought that they could last.
But with this amazing power granted from his special gift
The man made absolutely certain that no demons would exist.
And when at last the man was finally free
From all of his doubt, pain and misery.
He turned around to find his special gift in waiting
Only to discover that his precious gift had just been fading.
The man was so consumed with the war that waged inside
That he didn't even notice how his hopeless gift had cried.
He called out to her, "Baby please don't go!
I've so much more to show you. So much you've yet to know."
But it was too late, his gift had gone away
Without remorse, just left his heart like eaten prey.
"How could this have happened just as I had won?!
This isn't what I expected. Oh god, what have I done?"
Then the man felt the chill, and then he felt the creep
The darkness was returning to put his world to sleep.
And as he turned to face again the demons from his past
A new army lay before him, much bigger than the last.
It was then he knew a life without his special gift
Meant a life of darkness, and a curse he could never lift.
