For Stephen King Aficionados (Language Warning)

    Turn off the lights
    pretend we're not home
    Cujo is out there
    snout dripping
    with foam.
    The Pet Sematary
    has served him well
    for God's sake
    don't answer the bell.

    Annie just pulled up
    driving Christine
    in her hand
    a sledgehammer
    so new and pristine.
    Don't answer your Cell
    it will be your doom.
    It's the Overlook
    confirming your room.

    Peek through the window
    but don't open the door
    Carrie's on the stoop
    dripping with gore.
    That clown behind her
    just could be IT
    out of the sewers
    and reeking of shit.

    Halloween has loosed them
    from their written cages
    thrust them into our world
    freed from yellowing pages.

    We can attempt to flee
    to adjacent Jerusalem's Lot
    but sans stakes and Roland
    what chance have we got?

    So please grab the Talisman
    we simply must flip
    today there's no shame
    in abandoning ship.

A bit of Halloween humor dedicated to the Master. I've given this (one of my earliest pieces) a facelift as current circumstances have me unable to write a new holiday piece as is my habit.

A very happy Halloween to all, and to all, a safe night.

That's putting me in the 'spooky spirit' I don't remember seeing this one, Lisa. It must have been before I found this forum. Hope your Halloween is happy and safe, too.

Yeah! I loved, loved IT. And you know this comes from the one who writes her poetry in the black of night. No lights in my room, just a candle lit because I love doom. Lisa, this really picked me up! You have such a gift for dark humour. I don't know how you pull it off. And your rhyming was right on spot. You've got me thinking about writing one (my kind of holiday) but would never be a match for this!

Oh man, Lisa... I loved it. I love the reference to all of King's work... he's my favorite writer of all time! This is so great, on so many levels. I just had a huge row with my other half, so this definitely brightened my spirits.

I loved all the references and the wit that is your trademark. On the technical side, however, I'm always a bit fussy when it comes to meter and flow...and this piece caused me to stumble a time or two.

Dear Cindy, You weren't here yet when I posted this the first time, love. Glad I got you in the spooky spirit, you know how much I love that stuff.

Dear Sondra, Happy you found it clever, love my King, and I'm working really hard on getting better, thank you for your kind concern, hon.

Dear Laurie, You just had to mention candles, ugh, you've brought the danger here now. Even though you couldn't have know what would happen in your thread when you posted here, or could you? I wouldn't be surprised. It's a conspiracy I say. I'm thrilled you loved, and write the piece, betcha it would surpass this.

Dear Meghan, I'm glad I lifted your spirits, truly I am. Love King, read 'Salem's Lot at the age of 13 and have been hooked ever since. It's nice to know we share the same taste in recreational reading, I'm just an old gore whore at heart.

Dear Jeff, I know the bumps are there and I just didn't have the heart to fix them. This is one of my earliest pieces and I try to preserve the ancient artifacts in their original form. I can't tell you how I sometimes long to rip apart the oldies to fix them, but I don't, because they remind me where I came from. They keep me grounded and on the straight and narrow in the hopes that eventually I'll be able to walk a tightrope without a net. Actually, they allow me to personally gauge how far I've progressed. My love of King has made me very fond of this one, bumps and all.

    Thanks, guys, and HAPPY HALLOWEEN!

    All my best,
    Lisa
