    For Sapphire

My daughter is turning 13 this weekend. I'm throwing a coming of age party for her and wanted to write a little piece for her. I would like to tie together these two bits. The first poem I wrote for her birthday when she was nine. The second just now for her entrance into womanhood. Looking for some advice on tying them together.

Dark lashes spider walk across pale cheeks
    Freckles dance between the webs
    Spinning dreams behind eyelids.

Snuffling breath shallow in your chest
    Whistling through your missing teeth
    Giggling sighs under tangled sheets.

I cherish the moments of angelic serenity,
That are missing in the daylight,
    As I watch you sleep.

    Learn to love life,
find joy in the small moment.

    Pursue your passions,
    with single-mindedness.

    Make mistakes,
    and learn from them.

    Give of yourself,
    there is always need.

    Hunger,
    so you may truly appreciate.

    Let your anger be short-lived,
    don't hold grudges.

    Find the purpose
    that fulfills your soul.

    And never forget,
while you are tackling this big world,
that you carry my love, my pride and my joy.
Be kind, for everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle. ~Plato

Why not just blend them, with italics to indicate the second voice?

Hi, Kat. Baron gave you an excellent suggestion. You could come at it from a different angle and "puzzle piece" together like minded thoughts. e.g.

Find joy in the small moments Poem two S1,L1,
Cherish the moments (times) of angelic serenity Poem One S3, L1

Spinning dreams behind eyelids, Poem one S1, L3
find the purpose Poem two S7
    that fulfills your soul.

And providing lots of leeway. You have one lucky daughter, Kat! Laurie
