I am the Tin Man
I am the tin man,
a being without a heart.
My baggage so much lighter
since this trip began.
I am the Tin Man,
the product of others' labor.
The only thing I'm lacking
is a stamp reading "Made in Japan."
I am the Tin Man
with so much needless junk.
At times I feel overwhelmed,
I'm nothing but a glorified trash can.
The inspiration for this poem came earlier this week. I got a text that my Dad was in the emergency room, and I really felt nothing about it. I wasn't scared or worried, I was just empty.
I know I have a strained relationship with him, but I think that in a situation like that, I should feel something other than apathy.
I've had this line stuck in my head since then, and I finally decided to try to do something with it. It's rather new, so be harsh. I haven't revised it in the least yet.
