    My Present Ancestors

    Sometimes I feel
    Very drawn to my “roots”
    As if the very
    Beating of my heart
    Was in strict cadence
    With ceremonial rhythms
    Of my “present” ancestors....

And I feel them about me
In the rocks and the trees
    And the visitation of animals
    Attempting to reach my soul
    And guide my footsteps....

Robert, a truly wonderful poem expressing your "kinship". Maybe, you're talking about your Native American roots as you mentioned in my thread because descriptions in your last stanza has me wondering if you're looking back to your "roots". And that they guide your footsteps must be a wonderful, calming feeling. Here:

    Just lovely!
And I feel them about me
In the rocks and the trees
    And the visitation of animals
    Attempting to reach my soul
    And guide my footsteps....
