Well, a prime example is the Jabberwocky. The opening lines are:

'Twas brillig, and the slithy toves
    Did gyre and gimble in the wabe;
    All mimsy were the borogoves,
    And the mome raths outgrabe.

So, as you can see, a lot of these words were made-up, but still convey some sort of description.
High school = much work = procrastination = mother shouting = shouting back at mother

    Good idea astroannie.

    Tripping over myself to
    Reach a goal
    Idealized and nonexistent,
    Daring
    Everything, but not nearly
    Strong enough

zeroing in on the fun, that's my nub!
    over analytical, who says?
    over enthusiastic, hell yeah!
trying so hard to fit someones criteria
always finding bits sticking out - my posterior?
    like badly-made kitchen cabinet doors
    always opening at innapropriate moments
    when I should stay
    shut!

Seeing my father elbowing his way out of me, day by day.
Enough! I am not him, I am less and more and some mother too
Looking for my own contribution to this genetic soup
Finding it in my children, a smile, a phrase, a way of thinking.

Perhaps I will see of me in my grand-daughter what I see in my son.
    Of my father?
Ridding myself of my upbringing was the work of decades, incomplete.
To find that as I grew into myself I wanted to bring that cast-off, back.
Returning to my home after so many years away, it wasn't the place.
Always the people. The family that formed you, the friends that consummated you.
If only, you cry. But nothing gained by that. No punk, no dyed-hair, no rock and roller.
Take stock of now and what you have become. Dad. Rejoice!
