“The greatest achievement was at first and for a time a dream. The oak sleeps in the acorn, the bird waits in the egg, and in the highest vision of the soul a waking angel stirs. Dreams are the seedlings of realities.” ~ James Allen
"Use what talents you possess: the woods would be very silent if no birds sang there except those that sang best." ~ Henry Van Dyke

Whilst we are waiting for a first line,
A limerick’s made of five lines
Three long and two short ones you’ll find
Eight beats in the long
You will not go wrong
And five in the short ones you mind.
It's not exactly true I know, but syllables is a long word, and you can have nine in the long lines if you keep the rhythm, so please can anyone improve on it ?

To write lim'ricks one finds that the beat
Is best built using anapest feet.
For each foot there's three beats
The long lines have three... feets?
And the short lines have two, ain't that neat?
Here's a grid I started using to help me fit the meter of a limerick:
Dah dah DUM da da DUM da da DUM da da
Dah dah DUM da da DUM da da DUM da da
Dah dah DUM da da DUM
Dah dah DUM da da DUM
Dah dah DUM da da DUM da da DUM da da
To explain the light grey syllables, these are optional.
- The first syllable of each line is optional. You can start a line with 'da-DUM' or 'da-da-DUM'.
- The last two syllables of lines 1,2 and 5 are optional with the exception that they have to be consistent between all three.
Sorry, my fault, any further discussion in the Bard's Bistro please.
