I'm finding the 'discussion' (bickering) in this thread to be both lacking in substance and very disappointing.

The opening post has a lot of valid points. These would prove more valid if the OP also sets the example. The fact is that attitude has no bearing on talent. Look at some of the greats, for example, Oscar Wilde (quote: "I have nothing to declare but my genius"). No flaming intended in this thread, just an honest reaction to the irony of it.

You're right, it doesn't, but talent ought to have some beraing on attitude.

Any writer learning his/her craft should develope enough confidence in their work to be discerning about the critiques that they receive. They should not be pressured into adopting a specific attitude to how they receive critiques from others beyond, encouraging normal etiquette.

I'm still larning and trying to shore up my confidence. So it's okay for me to say:

"You're jst missing the point because you're to ignorant to understand an intelligent comment when you see one! I'm gonna start a big thread in the lounge flaming you you bit fat stupid-head!"

Cause I've heard that on some sites.

Whe someone makes a statement like that, or starts resorting to foul language, then your discernment should tell you that this is a critique to ignore.
