I believe the point trying to be made is that members shouldn't worry so much about it and let staff deal with it. Simply clicking a report post button is a lot different than starting a flame war between members. In other words, post your work, report violations you see to help out the staff, and continue enjoying the forum.

Thank you Selorian, along those lines. It wasn't the "And really" last two lines I was agreeing with. Newbies will always make mistakes, it goes with the territory when you are new, as staff we correct them if we notice or you are good enough to draw our attention. often this is done by a pm or some other action that is not immediately obvious and, without getting complacent, I think we stay fairly much on top of it. At least enough so that it does not seem worth getting my knickers in a twist over it when there is so much else in life, writing, learning, critiquing and socialising for example.

Our criticisms of new members flooding the poetry section have been ignored enough times to get the picture that your loyalties lie elsewhere. It is a given that you have to protect the interests of all involved, so why isn't this being done? Myself and Rob, in particular, have raised concerns about the situation with newcomers on many occassions. It's not a case of groups and cliques, as some on here like to make the reality - I wrote a whole series of poems with one particular newbie and have always offered a balanced assessment for the new members where and when I can - but I have been offering my criticisms and praise less and less in the poetry section, as have many of the more experienced and respected poets.

This is not coincidence, it is for good reason. When we've come to you with our concerns before, we've been ignored or you simply haven't been around to witness the trouble. I've advised newbies on numerous occassions not to post two/three poems a day but they usually take no notice.

I raised concerns that the implementation of a workshop and a discussion board would not resolve the problem and so far, I've been proved right. It's not because they are intrinsically bad ideas - they're just glossing over the more pressing concerns. Perhaps if I swore a lot more in this kind of essay and went around beating my chest, I'd get my point across. In any case, I am making the point for the last time if I recieve a similar response to the one you gave Rob.

If you want to take it upon yourselves to monitor the currently unmoderated new members, then please do. I have very rarely seen a moderator on that part of the board - I see plenty in the debate and lounge areas, however. Odd that those are your priorities.

I'm sorry you feel that we(staff) have been inattentive to the concerns of the poetry section. On this matter I must say that you are quite wrong in your accusations.

Your section( poetry) is properly moderated-moderation is intended to be as unatrusive as possable - we try to moderate with a light hand-not a hammer. The debate section and the lounge are where at times more moderating may be a priority( a flame war heaven) but that's not to say that we don't pay attention to the poetry board.

Flooding the boards in poetry has always been a problem but there is a button to notify us when this occures. Newbies are and should be allowed a learning curve -what would you have us do -ban them, heavily censure them because they didn't read the rules carefully enough. It seems patience is in short supply concerning you and others.

I or staff doesn't believe in heavy moderation- we do the best that we can and to imply that we don't or give short shift to poetry is ludecruis. I'm a little disappointed that you feel that the added sub-forums is of little value.

My warmest
bob

There's really not much to moderate in poetry aside from a few floods. I've never had a problem when asking a newbie to not post so many at once. They're new, and the "rules" on flooding are not very clearly explained. They just need time to settle into a slower rhythm. There's really not much the staff can do, except as Selorian pointed out, use a hammer. That doesn't solve the problem, because there're always more newbies. I take a moderate version of ash's approach. Things always even out eventually.

As I am sure you'll appreciate, there is a clear distinction between moderating with a hammer and just being around a bit more. The latter is what I am asking for. In the time that I have been posting on the forum, the poetry section has been one of the least attended - staff wise - and one of the most heavily used by members. Now, it may just be the case that whenever I am surfing the poetry board no staff members are present and that as soon as I log off, they all flood into the section. This can happen and you may choose to believe that to be the case. Could it be that you possibly need one or two more members of staff, equally?

I used to see a few more mods in the section. Foxee, BobTG, RC, occassionally Besh or Hawke. But I haven't really seen any more in the other sections I post in.
