    Onsite blogs

Let's not forget that we have blogs onsite as well. Some of the staff and membership have already begun blogging-you can find the bloglink at the upper left-hand side of your screen, under the logo, or just click here.
Start your own blog, read someone's work, vote for your favorite. Blogs are unlimited in scope, but please remember that they are bound by site policy as well. Don't do blue

I've seen a couple of sites that have blogs and frankly don't understand them.
Why do that instead of start a thread on the forum? What are the advantages?

As my friend eloquently put it:

"I tire of forum-ing, I feel like yelling into the abyss for a while."

Well, Lin, I'd say less interruptions for starters. The comment features are different, and there's a bit of sense of ownership associated with a blog that you don't really have with a thread (though there are those that would differ with that interpretation and guard their threads as zealously as Dammit guards Bettie). The blogs here also have the same capability as wp or blogger blogs in that you can syndicate the feed to exterior sources. I'm not aware that you can do that with a thread.

What exactly are feeds, how do they work, are they a way for stuff to be read by a larger audience?

Come to that, what purpose does a blog serve?

A blog is just a really quick, easy way to publish on the the internet,Oh Ox. They allow a public record to be posted as easily as posting on a forum. Totally idiot proof. Ox proof, not yet established.

The RSS feed is something people can subscribe to so they'llget an update on your posts immediately by email or on their desktop. It stands for Really Stupid Shit or some such. It's like a broadcastof your posts.

Yes they are. I'll let our friends at wiki explain.
At the very least, a blog serves as a host for a feed. Is that circular? Probably. A blog can be what you want it to be. Mine is a journal, home base for social networking, link depot and music player.
