Step by Step, Day by Day

Ever watch The Day After Tomorrow and think that the events taking place in the movie could never actually happen? Everything happening in the movie seems so frightening, yet comes off as so unreal. Even when I first saw the movie, I was thinking to myself "This is all just an exaggeration". It was foolish to think that. As exaggerated as it may seem, this is all actually happening. The Statue of Liberty may not be frozen and towered with snow, but who's to say it will not eventually happen? Global warming is taking place little by little, step by step. To some people, global warming is all a myth. I will agree that it is not easy to believe that the weather could turn so fierce and wipe out a population. As fake as it seems, global warming is happening and will continue to happen until people start to care more about the environment and attempt protecting it. Why not protect the Earth now?

Does the weather sometimes seem unusually warm or does it seem unusually cool? Does it seem like snow is being brushed off cars more than it should? Does it seem like bikes are turning rusty because the rainfall is too frequent these days? Sometimes when it is very nice weather in January, someone will turn to you and say, "Looks like spring came early this year". The weather may be warm one day, but no one should be surprised if they are wrapped up in a blanket, trying to keep warm, the next day. The climate is going to continue changing constantly. It is global warming's way of telling the Earth that it has made its arrival. These, however, are really just warning signs. This is not actually as bad as it will get. Eventually, it will all build up and turn into even more of a disaster than it is already.

Remember how cold everyone was in The Day After Tomorrow? They all huddled around a fire to try and keep warm. The climate changed so rapidly and piled everything in snow. The rain in the movie was falling so quick and the hail could be compared to a mini-van! The climate changing could actually lead up to that in just a few years if nothing is done.

How exactly did global warming come about? Well, one natural cause is a release of methane gas from arctic tundra and wetlands. The reason why this is so unhealthy for our environment is because methane is a greenhouse gas that traps heat in the Earth's atmosphere. Another natural cause is the climate change that was mentioned before. This climate change usually lasts about 40,000 years. Now, that is just the causes that are hardly intentional. People are really the major cause for global warming. People do the most damage. There is so much pollution in the world.

One major way of polluting the air is burning fossil fuels, such as oil and coal. Even the population is a threat! More people leads to more food and more methods of transportation. More transportation means methane because there will be more burning of fossil fuels, such as driving a car. Also, the trees that convert CO2 to oxygen are being demolished because people need to builds homes and such. The trees are not being replaced. That is a hazard to us because the trees are very important to our ecosystem and people are taking advantages of natural resources. If something was given back in return, then maybe things would not be as terrible as they seem now.

Hopefully, some people will consider trying to put an end to global warming based on the information given. There are some ways to contribute and try to help out our environment. These ways quite simple to some people, too. First off, programmable thermostats could be installed. Programmable thermostats can lower air conditioning or heat at night, and raise it back up in the morning. It even helps out energy bills because it can help save $100. Also, appliances could not be left on standby. Use the on/off button because keeping it on standby for most of the day can cause it to use about 40% of its energy.

Even just try to recycle at home. 2,400 pounds of carbon dioxide can be saved per year by recycling half of the waste in a household. How about even giving back to our environment and planting a tree? Since some people take advantage of natural resources, it could help a lot to just try to give back. Another way that some people are actually considering is just buying a more fuel efficient car. A hybrid car can get up to 60 miles per gallon. It sure is a better way to save money on gas. Some of these anti-global warming ways could actually help out people's daily lives, too.

Now, how obvious is it that global warming is not a fun experience? Of course it is not. This is not just a couple of people who have to face the consequences. All of Earth will be facing these consequences. Global warming can wipe out an entire population, animals and humans. It will succeed if no more people try to take action. Why not try to take action? There are different websites with tips on how to contribute to preventing it. Some tips have even been given in this reading. Try to make a difference and help put an end to global warming.

"A hybrid car can get up to 60 miles per hour."

Change this to "A hybrid car can get up to 60 miles per GALLON"

Hi Kaylee...

It seems you put a good amount of research in this paper. You not only stated your facts, but gave valid reasons as well.

First of all...check your punctuation carefully, there were some errors. A quick reread should fix that. Now, here are a couple of the things that I noticed. I am just pointing them out, as I am sure it could have been an over sight.

More people leads to more food and more methods of transportation.
~Leads should be lead...(A person leads, people lead.) Remember your subject verb agreement.

These ways quite simple to some people, too.
~I think you are meaning to say... "These ways are quite simple to some people." (???) I am only guessing.

Good Luck with your paper.

I hear you!! Plant a tree, recycle, and repect the planet and it's inhabitants!! Once we mess it up, we may never recover....
