This is a short essay I wrote for an Eng. Course

    Reason for Life

It is hard to say what role we actually have in this world. Further more does our role even matter one bit. Some would say that we have no important influence on the future, and that it does not matter whether we are even here tomorrow. This is illustrated in Annie Dillard’s’ “Wreck of Time: Taking Our Century’s Measure”. This very easy to think when it comes to mass murders and events such as the holocaust. Thousands of people dieing in a relatively short period of time is a depressing fact to face. A fact that could easily cause someone to become very doubtful in society and their own faith based religion. Why are we here then? Was it just a complete accident?
The belief that we are here by accident is almost a sickening thought. Just to think we are only to live and die with nothing post mortem. It is hard to believe we have no purpose on this earth and we have no spirits to move on from this earth. A lot of this belief of no after life comes from the theory of evolution. The theory of evolution has no specific meaning for our lives except for the fact we are trying to survive and ever changing. However, it is strictly science based and has no mention of humans having spirit or souls. The thought of this being true makes me sick to my stomach, because it just seems like such an empty thought. It is easy for the theory of evolution to be accepted when looking at catastrophic events, where thousands of people die in a short time. That stated is it impossible for the idea of evolution and a spiritual purpose to have coexistents.
The idea of spiritual purpose and evolution are the two most contrasting ideas in our world today. Evolution being from the study of science, it has no room for non testable variables. Science is very evidence based and completely depends on facts for anything to be truthful. Whereas any type of spiritual purpose depends on faith rather than tangible evidence. A spiritual purpose can give someone guidance for the way their life carried out. Seeing as these two ideas are completely opposite from one another, it maybe possible for them to merge. I am not going to deny any evidence of evolution or get into a religious debate, but there is something to be said about a spiritual purpose.
Combining the evolution and some sort of spiritualism could help bring someone purpose and answers. Someone could possible learn to have hope and faith in a greater purpose other than earthly matters. At the same time one could learn about where we come from and where we have been.
Catastrophes can be devastating to many people and cause many to believe that there is no reason for us to be here. To believe we have no greater purpose is easy to believe especially if you look at some of the horrific events that have taken place. However, it might be possible to believe in a scientific reason for our happenings as well as finding a spiritual purpose. The best thing to do in our lives is keep an open mind to both ideas.
    Live.....long...well...loved....and well written!

Are there any religions that aren't faith-based?). Why are we here then? Was it just a complete accident?
I'd run a spell-check on this, and then print it and read it from a hard copy.

Things like missing the word "is" are a dead giveaway that you haven't done your due diligence in proofing.
