Comic book writers and artists . . . "Breaking into the business" - VIDEO

Can't tell you how many times I've been told "write about what you know" . . . and the other one I've heard is "use the talents you've got" . . . so while I'd like to be a writer, I work in video and I'm pretty good at it . . . so I created these videos. Talked with guys who have worked at Marvel, DC, Aspen, Dark Horse, Bongo . . . about how they got into comics . . . I'm thinking about making more, so if you have any thoughts please let me know . . . and hopefully this might even provide some inspiration for some of you?

I've flirted with the idea of trying to make a comic (or manga, or graphic novel or wutevs) for some time now, but I'd always shrug it off as an impractical goal, given my very limited drawing (inking, coloring, etc.) skills. I enjoyed drawing as a kid, so I'm not utterly inexperienced, but I had pretty much stopped "actively" drawing (by that I mean regularly, and with the thoughtful intent to develop corresponding skills) by the time I was 10.

I decided to start trying to draw again, and actually improve those skills. I bought a tablet so I can use a pen with software programs. Having fun so far. Learning a lot.

So thanks for sharing those videos

By the way, in case anyone is interested, the tablet I got is a Wacom Intuos4 small

(Next to a laptop to give one an idea of its size)
I highly recommend it. Wacom has a good reputation for making tablets of the highest quality. Maybe a beginner can purchase a less expensive first tablet and still be 100% satisfied with it, but I wanted the best I could get under $200. I thought maybe I could the money it would cost on another product, so I could have a larger screen, but I read so many positive reviews, and a lot of them noted that, though its the "small" sized intuos, it doesn't feel or seem TOO small. The surface where the pen marks is about 4 by 7 inches. I don't feel restricted by the relatively small size whatsoever. I will also say that if anyone has thought about getting a tablet, because they feel limited (with their accuracy, and overall comfort) using a mouse in photoshop or whatever other program, but have been turned off due to expected an awkwardness, or conflict, from drawing on a surface where the drawing (the effects) aren't actually being produced, I had that same hesitation and it becomes very natural after some (a couple hours at most I'd say) experience.

I also got manga studio debut. Which I'm very happy with.
