    Portable Devices for Writers

I've been looking around for some kind of portable word-processing device that doesn't have the distracting functions or blinding glare of a laptop. The best thing I've found is the Alphasmart 3000, a very old device that displays just a few lines of text onto an LCD.

I'd really like something that could display a whole page. If Kindle supported a keyboard, that would be the cat's pajamas. It doesn't. Do any of you know whether there are any e-readers that allow the connection of a full-size keyboard?

Your best bet is a netbook. They are far more compact than a laptop and are ideal for writing on the road. I have a little Acer Aspire that takes up almost no room in my small backpack and goes everywhere I go. The keyboard is only slightly cramped from normal and after a very short time you don't notice the difference. You have several brands to choose from and they all feature wifi pickup built in - thus the name 'netbook'. You can sit in an internet café a thousand miles from home, check your email, work on your book, and upload to the cloud so it will be waiting for you.

I was actually talking about this yesterday. A1CS have an android tablet X220 that supports a keyboard and obviously isn't anywhere near the price of an Ipad. Plus it has two USB's and a micro SD port. The only thing about a tablet, any tablet is that it will be backlit – which is why I can see why you said the Kindle would be perfect – if it supported a keypad. Apart from that I think it’s going to be a matter of waiting until they release one with add-on’s.
