This is a pretty extreme case, but I think it illustrates to a degree why I think it's better for authors to at least attempt their own videos.
A vid mill just cranks out, based on what they keyword search in the image banks they subscribe to. They just slap up the little phrases and they all look the same.
I think the author has a vision of the work that comes through and helps set the video apart...and that is a more valubable quality that production slickness.
Now something like this..with frickin HOURS of animation involved... illustrates another factor. There is not way I could have paid somebody to do this. It would have cost multi tens of thousands of dollars, even if they could have gotten my concept perfectly.
So, I always think writers should at least take a hack at doing their own videos. Sometimes the very lack of professional skills and resources can lead to quirky solutions that make the video more interesting and "viral".
And I'm not saying that just because I sell an ebook on making your own book trailers for free. Not at all. No, no, no.
Well, okay, maybe a little.
