    Tijuana Bible

I don't know if this is appropriate for "workshopping" because I've discontinued posting to them. But I'm open for suggestions, I guess you'd say.

This was essentially work I'd already done in magazines, etc. And since it was a collections of shorts, I felt no need for sequence or TOC (and was in love with cool new navigation methods like flying tag clouds and RSS feed. Poke around the site, was the idea. Or subscribe and get a new goody each week.

I stopped it because reader interest was minimal and my own as well. Call it an experiment. I might revive it some day. Or do an ebook.

Shorts don't do well as serials, is my impression. Unless very thematic like "Lord Likely".

I've read Chiva: Parts 1 and 2, they were good. But I haven't read enough about the collection to make a sound evaluation.

Thanks, Johann. I'm not looking for lit crit so much here. Like I say, most of that stuff was already published somewhere. (Not the Chiva bits, though--that was a classic screwover by an editor who chicked out on a committment)

It's mostly just an example of problems
I've really revised my ideas on navigation and doubt I'll ever do another collection of short work.
    The artwork was fun, though.

But for people who might be thinking of doing a serial of short work... what do you think? Is a TOC necessary or does stuff like this work?

That tag cloud, by the way, is a WordPress add-on called "Cumulus" Is it totally bitchin', or what? I think it would more effective for projects with higher tech looks and audience/material.

Cumulus looks cool, but I have had a hard time looking for stories I'm interested in reading by clicking simple tags. I'm one of those people who prefers to read a table of contents and a small one liner summary for it. I don't even know if there's a part 3, but the story (I think) shows indeed there may be.

I regard it as a screwup.
And I don't think there's any more to the chiva story. Sorry.
    Try this one http://hyperlit.adorobooks.com/tjbiblewp/?p=14

I DO like the header graphic on this one, though.

HoneyBunz Runz Gunz is one bad ass story. I've read that you lived in some parts of asia, and mexico, and I'm left hungering for more. I've also read Moderan does the music for your works. How cool is that? Though I guess the animation still needs a bit of improvement.

Actually not. You never know what will happen when YouTube converts to flash. You get all sorts of artifacts. Not that I have any idea what timing you mean, but that's the way it works.
I have used other sites, but a couple of them went out (and ning is going out) and two others started running really intrusive ads on the links, so I stick with YouTube even though id does ugly stuff sometimes.

Although.... I just ran through the YouTube version of that vid and can't find anything I'd call an error of timing. Perhaps you're have trouble with the streaming?
    Beats me.

BTW, that's not Moderan's music on that one. It is on several others, though. His stuff is really fun to work with. I just finished another vid with a moderan soundtrack and once again was impressed how much the transitions just seem to fall in right to work with.

Maybe. Or not. It's not animated, just pans. Can you give me an idea what you're looking at here?

BTW, speaking of doing a video from panned artwork, you know who really ought to do one of those?
    YOU, dude?

But the flash conversion is a bitch. I uploaded my most recent one in 640x480 and it looked like CRAP. All the red titles were distorted and muddy and lad little lines around them. I did it again in 320x240 with this result.

that's a video poem inspired by the drawings, structured by moderan's cool music, my words written as the last step.
And it's full of little gltches because it's just so fricking impossible to match up cuts between pans.
