I hate flash. And it's so ubiquitous anymore. That stuff would look better as an avi. I like the Tijuana Bible idea too, especially conceptually. Needs art like the real ones.

I blogged today. Did you?

Well, an avi file wouldn't stream very well. That's the thing, they have to compress in order for it to work. But it can really spoil your day when it goes bad.
I know. Just wish there was another medium. I hate flash. Someday....

Some of the pans are a bit long microsecond-wise. lol! anyway just forget about that one. I'm reminded of the days of how much frames of drawing it takes for second of animation. so I'm kinda sensitive about the timing, anyway that's just me, no one else would notice.
I had some really great ideas for layering the drawing in adobe aftereffects kinda like this one though at the time I lack the machine that is capable of editing videos. I'm lacking a video card. haha. So I'm limited to graphics and microsoft word. But I would love to do it otherwise.
That's pretty damn cool. I could easily see comics going that way, especially for phones and pads.
Interesting. And I appreciate seeing and example, even of something you say didn't work. It is instructive.
The moving tag "cloud" is fascinating. Apparently I can just install that on my blog and it will automatically add the names that circulate? I can see how you would be attracted to it, it adds visual interest and a feeling that the reader is not seeing ordinary "reading matter".
However, I see the point on it not being useful. On the other hand, how useful would a table of contents be? Isn't it just a static list of names?
If, let me hypothesize, every chapter was given a unique tag, would the "cloud" then not be a table of contents, just a moving one? Or would that work?
Can the size of the "cloud" be increased as the number of names increases?
Why are some names bigger than others? Is that something the writer controls?
Incidentally, I also found that comic book animation or film or whatever it would be called to be quite exciting. It wouldn't fit my project, but I could see having a single chapter or "trailer" in that format.
Is it "flash", then? Is this something that requires special machines or training to create?
Metal Gear Solid was made with scans and the Adobe AfterEffects program, so it's a video format(.avi, /mpeg etc. converted to flash) . I took video editing in college so I know how to use it. I think a summer semester course could teach you that in about three to six months. You'll probably need a machine fit for video editing too. The new Adobe softwares takes a lot to operate, like a minimum of 4gb RAM, a ton of hard drive space. a video card about 512mb.
You could also put links on your table of contents directly to the story. That's one way of making it work.
On Lin's site, I saw the Drugs link hovering and didn't click on it. But I clicked on the Guns link. I didn't know they would be related. Also when I looked at the Drugs link I thought it would be a story about addiction. So the words tend to be subjective to whoever is looking at it. I'm not saying it's not a good idea, it's just something that wouldn't work for me.
Actually, I think you are merely describing my bumbling.
Clicking a tag in the cloud should bring up a list of all posts carrying that tag. So it's like a chapter indexer, in a way.
I have used a "text" or "html" widget, just pasting in chapters as they are added. You can just copy paste the link code, changing chapter name and link number, so it's not a big deal. You can also use shorter chapters names to fit or for whatever reason you want them different, which you can't do when the TOC is generated automatically.
A REALLY cool TOC, a WordPress widget designed specifically for online novel writers is available from Chris at Muses Success (where you should list your story, by the way)
