    So....what's it about?

Your nanonovel, that is. What are you writing about?

This year's model takes place on the planet Carcosa, a frigid nightmare with a distant red sun, liquid methane lakes, high winds, and explosive rain.
My main character is a sessile carnivore who attracts prey by emitting pheromones. The planet itself is also a character, in the time-honored tradition known as the Big Dumb Object.
The inhabitants of Carcosa share memories through the planet's neural network, a different sort of hivemind than the traditional view.
Carcosa is a planet created by Ambrose Bierce and subsumed into the greater Cthulhu Mythos as the sometime home of Hastur and the setting for parts of Robert W. Chambers the King in Yellow. Those characters exist in the narrative, but are almost completely offstage.
I don't have a title for it yet.

This year's NaNo attempt is a self challenge entitled 'How to write for NaNo'.

I thought the irony would be hilarious if I didn't manage 50,000.

Usually my NaNo attempts sport a 'no agenda' approach meaning I write with no plot or character planning and just off the top of my head. But I thought I'd have a little fun this year.

This time it spans from self invented writing myths and legends, bogus historical facts, and just the general joy of writing utter nonsense for a month, all wrapped together as a 'writing guide' that never really helps.

I might post it up here if I like the end result.

My Novel is High Tolkien Fantasy set in a Post "Apocalyptic" time where the world now recovering from the ravages of war that led to the demise of pretty much everything, and the world starts anew (because this just rocks for a setting).

I have elves, humans, dwarfs, orc's (every fantasy novel needs orc's) hobbits, goblins, and the whole slew of casts of everything from sparkling vampires to dragons that think they are ducks (bonus if you can guess where this is from).

The plot is simple, a Young Dark Elf who wields dual scimitars and befriends a large cat like beast comes to the surface to prove that he/she/it is not truly an evil person and decides to become a ranger of the woods ... however I can't shake the feeling that this idea seems strangely like something I have read before.

Actually, it's just a story of self discovery told in a high Tolkien backdrop, like some warped mixing of Catcher in the Rye meets Icewind Dale, slapped with some Mad Max. I know, lame, but it's NaNo, I'm not being given awards for inventiveness I am going for word count.
