Where to Find Freelance Work?

Hello everyone,
I am looking for some freelance work. I am a full time student with a part time job. I would like to do some side freelance writing, hopefully paid work. I have looked everywhere for work, but I cannot seem to find any. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I could get some? I don't expect to make millions doing this, but just enough to make some spare change. Thanks.

You don't really "find" work. You've just gotta start plugging away with query letters. Pick up the latest edition of "Writer's Market," it'll tell you everything you need to get started. That book will be your bible throughout your career.

You can try Constant-Content as well. I've made a grand total of $15 there.

Look in the Yellow Pages and newstand for local publications and contact them about the possibility of doing something.

This is a broad question, and we know nothing of what you write or at what level. And it's a very over-crowded field. There are lots of people who will write content for free. It's a tough way to make a buck, especially for somebody whose time and concentration is as occupied as yours.

Tell you one thing, though. The single biggest pool of paying magazines in the US is: auto club mags. And there will be a local one in your area.

Is there a publication for students who have side jobs?

You can also try craigslist.com
There are a lot of on-line zines who are looking for content. Most don't offer you pay, or serious pay that is, but it's a good place to start building your portfolio & resume. A lot of freelance writers are also technical writers for business and grant writing. As a freelance writer, you'd probably need your own website too.
Since you are a student, there is probably a collegiate paper or magazine you can collaborate with.
