Oookay.
I tried and failed miserably last year, mostly becuase I only found out about NaNoWriMo about two days before it began. This time I've got a plot all ready and planned.
Hey, I'll never make 50 000 words but it might just be the kickstart I need to get writing again.
I'm in.

That's the reason I'm doing it as well. I'm doing so many other things I end up not writing at all, so I need something to aim for (with others looking on, to keep me on track)
by the way I'm celebrating my 100th post

Well, I'm in - of course. Year 5 for me. And, before Val even gets around to asking, of course I'll be "competing" against her. She put the pressure on me last year, leaving me little time for anything but writing.
Still, it'd be nice to win this thing a fifth years running.
For all the people not sure about starting, stop worrying. What's the worst that happens if you don't make it? The whole point is just to try writing something and seeing what you can do in a month. It's about the attempt, not the success or failure. So, don't hesitate, just write!

Good to know, Mr. Frosst. Maybe I'll even let you win this year! I'm going to assume you'll be visiting for our annual kick-off. And, as I recall, you had plenty of time for other things...which is why you woke to my stunning victory that monday morning. Neener.
It would appear I now have three people throwing down the nano gauntlet. Anyone else feeling the need to join them? My heart is saying "bring it!", but my head remembers that family, work, and other obligations are vastly limiting my writing time this year.
...what the hell, bring it!
By the way, sign ups start tomorrow!

Whew. *shivers with anticipation*
I'm going to do it. I just found out about this a couple days ago but the more I think about it, the more I have convinced myself that it would be a good way to set aside my current novels and hopefully come back revved up with new ideas and new approaches.... or maybe never write again.
This will be my first year but it won't be my last. Huzzah for personal growth!

I might try this, if only for the chance to get some work done.
Doubt I'll get to 50,000 words though. I'm usually hard pressed to write 1,500 in a weekend. (Then again, in this case I won't be checking back constantly and re-writing constantly)

I'm going to have a go - just went & made sure my account from last year is still available. I figure the distractions that made me drop out last year are no longer around so, even though I am now working full time, I'm going to have a shot.
And NOT challenging anyone except myself *grins*

I'm going to try NaNo this year. I'm a newbie to it, so I think it should be really fun! But I can already tell my biggest problem will be coming up with enough information to fit the 50,000 word count...
But from what I hear a lot of people make it up right on the spot, so I'll probably end up doing that.

Okay...so I've done it. I've signed up, created my account...no turning back...I'm going to do it!
the note pad came out last night, sharpened my pencil (if you'll excuse the phrase)...I have mapped out two chapters (ahem)...but that should be worth a couple of thousand words...don't you think?
Hakeem, How are you doing? planning going okay?

Hey Star, well I'm doing good. I didn't map out any chapters, just thought out the basic elements.. I just signed up as well, and the only thing I'm liking so far is the little icon in my signature!... I see you're ready, to lose..
Check this thread Valeca created in the Nanowrimo forums for WF, everyone is there.

Ha! You've never "let" me anything. It's always been through cunning manipulation of the facts.
Still, with things being busy as all get out this year (and only the fuzziest of ideas for plot and story and so forth - no change fromm every year really), I'm just not sure if I can pull off the high speed writing antics you've come to know and love (or dread).
Still, the challenge is out there. With luck, I'll bust out of the starting gates and drop a good number of words on day 1. We will see.

I'm changing my strategy for this year. Last time I plotted almost everything, which chapters would cover what, characters names etc and stalled at 12,000 words.
So this year I'll be writing a stream of consciousness and see what happens. I'm looking forward to it because of this, it's like an adventure, and even I won't know what's around the corner. Plus any plot twists will even surprise me! Fantastic.

I'm just laughing too hard to make a proper reply! Cunning manipulation. Heh!
