That reads like a texbook (if you'll pardon the pun!) answer to my point, Jon - you hit the nail veryy succinctly on the head!

I know what you mean, Jon - There seems to be a lot of critique available but it's all very subjective, I think. Most people who comment seem to leave negative criticisms and then disappear into the ether. Their criticisms seem to be based mainly on "I-don't-write-like-that-so-I-don't-like-your-work". Not liking soemeone's work is fine - I'm certainly not here to be drowned in gushing hyperbole about my work. I do, however, feel that whilst anyone can make a negative critique of a piece of work, fewer can offer advice of any other than the "do it like I do it" kind. Still, when we consider the field, any writings are subject to the tastes of others and perhaps I should be less precious about my work.

    Cheers,

    JP

    Hi Jon,

Thanks for the comments - all criticism is gratefully recieved. I'm from Kerry (near Newtown) but the story is set in Newport, Pembs. The reader gets let in on the whereabouts of the story obliquely through the characters as it unfolds, but at the start you'd have to be familiar with that area to know that's where it was. The hills reffered to are the Preseli mountains.

    Thanks,

    Jack
