Har! Don't get pretentious on me, boy. :p
I'm glad the New Year holiday falls on the weekend this year. I like when things fit together nicely. Oh and, don't worry, it's there if you're interested, if not, that's okay too. But I expect a detailed report on it on my desk by Monday. ;P
Thanks. I'm probably not going to have much chance to read for a few days at least.
I began to sway towards the Lit Fic genre after reading John Irving's "The World According to Garp". His style is like a halfway point between commercial fiction and literary fiction, in my opinion.. less plot oriented and more character focused. I then went looking for other others that wrote alot about the internal conflicts of characters (rather than the external, physical conflicts) and I found Zadie Smith's "White Teeth". It was decent but not great,.. but moving more in that direction. Now I'm reading Jennifer Egan, and I think she's superb. If you want an introduction to her style (the definition of literary fiction, in my opinion), give this short story a read: Safari : The New Yorker
Yes, I know, how very lowbrow of me. I never said I wouldn't enjoy it, just that I probably haven't really read any.
Not a Lit Fic fan? *gasp* You're missing out. Sadly, Lit Fic seems to be a dying breed.. scooped away into literary publications at the bottom shelves of magazine racks, between "Auto Repair" and "Home and Gardening"
If I have it was probably by accident. :p Not that I would object to it but so far I've just been lazily reading whatever grabs me.
Hi Foxee.. you mentioned some authors you like to read before.. I've read a few of those you mentioned (Crichton, Lewis, King [your favorite! ])I'm wondering, do you read any Literary Fiction?
I like some of Dean Koontz's books (not all but while we're on the subject of horror/suspense), Frank Peretti, Michael Crichton, Tom Clancy (when he's actually written the book himself *eyeroll*), Anne McCaffrey. I've greatly enjoyed a lot of Isaac Asimov, J.R.R. Tolkien, and C.S. Lewis. Recently read the Hunger Games trilogy (okay in the last year) and I'm not sure if I'm a fan of the author but the books sure held my interest. Overall I like just about anything that keeps me guessing till the end and if it has mindbending plot points (in TV: LOST, Fringe are two favorites) then I love it. King is a good writer but he gives me nightmares and I think he has a relatively lousy attitude, I don't have any problem moving on to other authors.
